Wowzers

So I spend a lot of time looking at other peoples art and not my own, (probably too much). But I've found that over the years without the need to go googley eyed at other work, I'd never have been so enthusiastic about continuing with my own. When people all over the world produce such amazing art work at a constant rate, it really makes me try harder so that maybe some day I might feel like part of that group of people. That and something pretty, does tend to cheer you up. ;3

This post is about me sharing some of the artists and games artists who have inspired me over the years, not just for the career direction that I want to go in, but in artistic forms in general, people that make me say wowzers. :)

First up, while these are traditional in nature, these sculptors have always had me waiting to see what they produce next. I love the colours they use, and while their creations are usually made out of clay, their command of 3D forms are always cute and near perfect. The characters they create are always full of character - it's no wonder they're usually bought within a couple of hours of being online.

This next person, always makes me envious because while they are an amazing 3D sculptor, they manage to get the lighting and the materials so perfect and smooth. Just makes all of their pieces really nice to look at. While a lot of their characters look pretty samey due to similar render set ups and techniques, it's a style I really like and they clearly put in a lot of attention to detail and effort when completing each piece.

Going back to something more traditional is this artist. While most of what they draw or paint is canines and animals in general, I really like their slimline, heavy line art styled pieces. The way that they manage to put so much character and emotion in to each animal is amazing with the small amount of actual figure definition. This artist will always be awesome to me because the lines in her drawings are so smooth and accurate - something I find difficult, so I will always look up to.

Jean Go works in a wider variety of mediums, but also in 3D. I first discovered her when I saw the piece below. I loved the colours used and the over all design of the piece, but on further investigation, all of her other concepts were strong too. While some of her work might not be as strong as others, her ideas and designs linked around themes and moods are -I think- original and unique, without being too outrageous. She's one to watch. ;3

I think overall it's important to always source new inspiration for artwork. It's so cool to see what other people come up with and be able to develop your own ideas with more and more visual aid.

Dagnar Update !

So I pretty much finished Dagnar too. His textures are proving to be a little slow due to having to draw them out, look at them, see if the new part matches the balances of colour and shading depth for the area, and then either redo or continue. But ! I'm pretty happy with what I've got so far.

There was going to be a Normal map on him too, however it wasn't working because of the way I had unwrapped him, so I'm just gonna leave it all to the textures. With both on you could barely tell the difference anyway.

Prooooblems.

So because of the way I unwrapped Dagnar, I don't think my normals are going to work unless I re-unwrap him. Which I don't think I'm going to do. I started texturing him the other day and he looks fine on his own.

But if anyone could help me with this problem in general for future reference that'd be helpful.

Notice the dots on his head. One goes in, one pokes out? They're both supposed to poke out, but because I've used the same UV map for both sides of his body, it's screwed with it. I've tried a couple things, inverting ect, some stuff I googled, but nothing seemed to work. Oohhhh well. I know if I unwrapped it again, It'd fix it, but too late me thinks.

Bedroom Update

It's all pretty much done. Texturing to come soon! Pretty happy with it, but it needs the poly count lowered a bit, just because I realised where I could be more economic, especially in the smaller objects. However, I did wanna keep this pretty realistic, so there is room for higher poly count. :)

I'm thinking traditional floral wall papers in an old rustic style, for a softer looking bedroom. Making it feminine without being too in your face. I want the room to glow in shades of pink orange and blue, but I intend to try other colour schemes. Not using anything too bright either, to help with the realistic look I'm going for.

Still have to add some more piles of trash and toys around, but I think I'll just be making those out of simple shapes and planes later on, depending on how much time I have left. We shall see...

BOOM !

Today's update so far !

Added more decorations and bedroom items to the room, as well as a window for a light source. Trying to figure out what else I could place on the hole in the wall. Maybe a fish tank for fun and another interesting light source?

Items added today: Coving, wooden border, window, curtains x3, long cat plush, space mobile, ball, rucksack, toy box, glass cup, rug and posters. Hoping to have it all completely modelled by the end of tomorrow. :D

How do I keep forgetting. ;-;

I havn't forgotten about le blog, (although clearly I think I have if I'm saying this). Here's a quick preview of what I've been up to:

I've been messing around with Ncloth recently for my bedroom project. Thought it might be fun to try something new; plus I needed something a little higher poly with a bit more realistic movement so I thought why not. It's supposed to be realistically styled and textured, but I'm still trying to keep the poly count as low as possible. Gonna try and lower it further when I'm a little closer to getting the scene done.

Here's a look at the mesh:

I also made the bunny doll Ncloth too, just to give it some realistic placement on the bed.

See how her ears lift a little like she's really on the bed?  ^____^
Also, I've decided no matter how tired I am that I will be updating this every time I decide to stop working for the night. Hopefully this will encourage more posts for peeps to look at. Stay tuned. :P
